Pay It Forward

Is there such human virtue anymore? Can we do something for people without ever thinking of any return? Pay It Forward tells a story of 12-year-old Trevor McKinney who believed in the goodness of human nature, that people will do good to others and not not expect payback. I have always hold this philosophy close to my heart. Yet this world is teaching us to expect returns -"There isn't any free lunch", when I give you something I want something equal if not more in return. I was deeply inspired by this movie, can we emulate this kid and his noble deed in real life? I believe we can if we all believe the goodness of human nature.
Synopsis of the movie: Young Trevor McKinney, troubled by his mother's alcoholism and fears of his abusive but absent father, is caught up by an intriguing assignment from his new social studies teacher, Mr. Simonet. The assignment: think of something to change the world and put it into action. Trevor conjures the notion of paying a favour not back, but forward--repaying good deeds not with payback, but with new good deeds done to three new people. Trevor's efforts to make good on his idea bring a revolution not only in the lives of himself, his mother and his physically and emotionally scarred teacher, but in those of an ever-widening circle of people completely unknown to him.
